Racism 2020: Are u really surprised by the racial climate in the U.S. in 2020?

I've seen seeing these racial undertones bubbling 4 quite a while.

Once Trump got into office, it was like the cherry on top 4 the race card 2 play itself out in the open more.

My question 2 the group is, are u really surprised by the climate we now have in US 2020?

It's not really surprising because like you say, it's been bubbling forever and the Trump era has just emboldened the racists that were on the fringes to become more defiant and in the mainstream without shame. He's like the Mama signing the permission slip, giving the authorization to be as vile as they fucking wanna be. Nonetheless, it's still shocking to actually witness how things unfold once a certain threshold of abuse is reached.

Trump promotes and encourages racism and hate.Look around....America is more divided than it has ever been. He's not bringing people together,he is doing the opposite.

Of course not....I've seen this going back to Nixon and the 'silent majority'. I'm shocked when I hear some black folks say "I can't believe this still goes on today".....damn, where have they been?

No but Trump has stoked it quite a bit.

He RAN on that as a campaign issue he wanted to stoke

... to those protesting, wear a goddam mask and be peaceful. Fucking shit man.

.

I know it is said that outsiders are stoking the violence to make the protestors look bad, but let's do our part and help keep our neighborhoods safe.

Not surprised in the least. Trump has done nothing but divide your country, so will you participate in the election to help vote him out?

He has run on a platform of racism.

Trump has been eager to do anything to stoke fires to reach his base.

He knows stoking the fires of racism motivates his base like nothing else.

Well i have noticed some protestors being disrespectful too let's be honest.

We are all people and we are all different. One thing that irks me is when protestors start yelling at a random cop and laying all the baggage on a random person doing their job. He woke up that morning to go to work and all of a sudden someone blames all the ills of the world on them and they probably agree with them.

We all need to respect. All of us. Easy to say but we all get casught up in situations.

There are cops showing up in areas starting violence from the point that they arrive. They are creating havoc where there is none.

Not in the least. But I was surprised how open Trump and his enablers are about it. In recent years Conservatives were better at hiding or downplaying it. Now it’s just blatant, as if we returned to the day of George Wallace and Lester Maddox and Bull Connor

Strive

The left continues getting more and more into the wrong and the corporate owned media continually push the narrative that they can never be questioned because they're [insert whatever characteristic you desire] so no I'm not shocked.

Us vs them within own own nation only causes people to get more violent and tribalistic. The cops don't view the people they deal with as people. The people don't view anybody that opposes them as people. Everybody's only out for themselves. Nobody has any empathy or compassion. That's a recipe for disaster.

The first racism incident in my memory was Rodney King and the riots that followed, it was terrifying to me...both what was done to Mr. King and the violence that played out on TV afterwards. These things continue all these years later, so I shouldn't be surprised. But, I will say, the officer with his knee on Mr. Floyd, knowing full well he was already subdued, knowing full well he was being video'd, knowing full well he was killing him...yes, that shocks me...it hurts my heart, the lack of humanity scares me and every day and night I keep seeing that vision in my mind...truly disturbing.

I was a teen back then when we still had newspapers. I had gone to clipping stories from the LA times of abuse to write a fictional story based on all of the stories i had been clipping and how people would get tired of it and revolt.

Little did i know that would really happen soon after with the police who were filmed for all to see and let go free without prosecution.

Its unbelievably insane that we as a society give them the freedom to abuse with impunity whereas citizens are hauled to jail and incarcerated and even killed for far less infractions.

.

People want justice. It's part of the fabric of what this country's is supposed to be based on, JUSTICE FOR ALL

It shines a light for EVERYONE to see. It leaves little doubt when it pits one's word against another.

people may not want to change, but hopefully it makes people think twice when they know the whole world will see their actions.

You would've expected things to change after Amadou Diallo died in a hail of bullets...but here we are, twenty years later, and it's 'wash, rinse, repeat'. I'm not as optimistic as you are.

No surprise here. But I'm more disappointed that most people in the USA do not see or hear the fact that both major U.S. political parites [Republican & Democratic] are responsible for the hot mess. Donald Trump is culturially bias and so is Joe Biden. At least Trump is upfront about being the big bad wolf. But Joe Biden has been a nickel slick fox for DECADES with his own under the radar racism.

Well obviously we have to be hopeful.

And obviously it sheds a global light on it.

And obviously lit people up.

Just as the Rodney King video lit people up. All the other videos.

It certainly does help when the entire world can see it for themselves.

Pessimism certainly doesn't help.

I'm not surprised. The USA Trump described in his inauguration speech was very, very dark - and has now come to full fruition. We knew nothing good was coming. This is exactly what this administrtion and it's supporters wanted.

It's certainly been a very dark year. A culmination of years of dark rhetoric and ignorance under this administration. And for Trump going farther back to when he was making racist accusations against Obama.
