It always fasinates me how different everyone's tastes can be on the ORG.

I guess that is what made Prince so special.

I am most excited for Chaos & Disorder - I love that album

and also really excited for Emancipation... although I was I could make my own Single Disc Verson...should we start ANOTHER thread about that? HA.

But for Versace... Could someone help me out?

This versace tape for record store day was from the Gold Experince Time..

But I could swear that he did Versace again around 3121... I vividly remember seeing a Versace runway with Black Sweat and it was a version that I drooled over and have never been able to get.

Am I right in remembering 2 separate Versace collections and do we know if this Vinyl is the same as the cassette from RSD or is it maybe the 2006 version that I am thinking of.. Fingers Crossed it is 2006...

THANK YOU

I'm really sorry, but I'm one of these hundred people on earth. I really get excited about the opportunity to buy the Versace Experience officially. (If hopefully the LP release doesn't suffer from the problems that were reported about the tape that was released on Record Store Day.) The Versace Experience is a really great mix of all the dishes Prince cooked in 1994, and I listen to the bootleg regularily. There are still some songs that are exclusive to this, btw.

I also think about buying Chaos & Disorder on vinyl, as it sure is one of my favourite 1990s-outings of Prince. And it would fit really nicely next to the vinyl editions of Come and the Gold Experience on my shelf! biggrin cool wink

^THIS!!! I could give a fuck about vinyl mid-90s re-issues. Can't imagine there would be more than a hundred people on this planet who would. It's utter insanity, economically and pop-culturally, if the estate continues to sit on any decent full-length unseen concert footage. Die-hards aint getting any younger y'all.

Of course i cannot be sure about the sound of future releases, but at least Come + The Gold Experience sound a lot better on vinyl than they do on CD. And Versace has never been out except for the original tape given away at the fashion shows. I don't have one of those. If you have one, then great for you!

Exodus was not released in the states. I have the European LP & CD. The CD has a glitch in one of the segues that was not on the LP or the Australian CD. So, if reissued, I'll buy the CD again but I'm happy with the vinyl that I already have.

.

Hi Thunderfunk,

This is interesting. Are you referring to the brief pause after Prince asks for the car keys? I always assumed that was an audio edit censoring something. I never realised it was an error.

IIRC, yes that's it.

The pause/glitch/silence is on the European CD, not on the EUR vinyl and not on the Australian CD, so, must be a mistake.

At one point I used the vinyl as a source to "fix" the CD, but soon after someone was kind enough to share a copy of the AUS CD with me. That's just a temporary solution though, I want to own a perfect physical copy on my shelf so I'll happily buy that one again.

The silence is on the word "fuck", isn't it? My understanding is that it wasn't a glitch but a "clean" edit for parody purposes. This has been reported before (and denied by some,so there might be 2 versions of the lp) and i included it on my discography but i'd be very interested in a rip of the LP version for comparison.

Ultimate Rave was cool but a pointless release with no new content and I don't buy records anymore. If they had added a 4th disc with unreleased material from the Rave era (or the original Rave from 1989) and a digital release then I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

Like I said, I think it could only be some sort of inside joke. The odds that a technical bug accidentally appeared exactly on the word "fuck", on all the record, and manifested itself as a split second of silence, appear very unlikely to me. Not impossible, but it would be the craziest coincidence ever.

According to Discogs the only LP version that exists is the European version so I'm not sure why some other orger once claimed their version had the censored "fuck" like the CD, and I have no idea why there is a master with "fuck" and one without "fuck", but I'm pretty certain this cannot be an accident. Or if it is, it was God sending a message to Prince to stop cursing and he was right to do so later on lol lol

I dunno, the EUR LP & CD came out at the same time, have the same warning label, nothing indicates a different edition anywhere in the artwork. I don't see how it could be on purpose for the CD and not the vinyl. Since the AUS CD doesn't have it, it sure seems like a defect. And since that word is all over the album, it just doesn't make any sense.

My version of the CD has the censored segue.

I haven't yet tried my LP copy.

However I do have a digital version and that is not censored - I do not know the origin of the digital version I have.

The oficial version I received from Paisley had the censor silence on it. I was told at the time that it was indeed a glitch and that's why certain boots of the project have the full clip.

Interesting, like Thunderfunk I'd be interested in which version you got from PP. Also, I'm curious about who told you back then that it was a glitch?

Although i'm not over exited by these releases I will purchase Versace on CD for my "Vault"

I am also curious as to how they will package Emacipation & Chaos Cd's as they were both originally jewel cases and we have yet to see an album that was originally a jewel cas be released (excluding Rave into but that was changed to a box set)

More interestingly, will they keep up the relatively high image resolution? For Rave and the others, Sony must've either had access to original files, or done research and gone to some lenghts to source images from posters etc. Compare this with Warner's vinyl re-releases, which were all mere scans from old vinyl sleeves.

I for one am very pleased with these releases. Chaos & Disorder really surprised me when it was released. And I always wanted a copy on vinyl.

Emancipation will be a beast. I remember feeling a bit let down when it came out. But it has grown on me over the years.

Versace is just a nice addition for collector's sake.

If you don't like it don't buy it, I don't care. Everybody their own...

The collection is looking better and better every release...

here's hoping the estate will finally get their act together and release Dream factory or Crystal ball sometime... Or an Undertaker vinyl smile wow that would be very very very cool

Well all this is nonsense, I'm afraid... the vinyl resurgence is far from a fad... vinyl sales represent only a small percentage of overall sales, it's true, but they're growing every year, and every label has taken note of this, and is taking the format very seriously again... god, even ECM have started pressing albums to vinyl again, both new titles and back catalogue...

So yes, there are a growing number of people who want these albums on vinyl, and as someone who never stopped buying vinyl, I count myself among them.

Particularly as the recent Sony vinyl issues of 3121, Musicology, Planet Earth and Rave In2/Un2 The Joy Fantastic are the best sounding editions of those albums available, with fantastic mastering and pressings, I will picking up all of these the day they are issued.... EMANCIPATION ON VINYL? CHAOS AND DISORDER ON VINYL? MIND..... BLOWN!!! Something I've always wanted and never thought I'd get to see.

It also makes a lot of sense to get the man's main catalogue properly released and in print, filling in all the gaps where possible, before 'properly' moving on to unreleased albums etc (which Warners are doing anyway).... it's only a couple of years of releases to fill in these gaps, at the rate they are going, and anybody who has them already doesn't have to buy them, but it makes perfect sense to get the main catalogue out there in the world.

If you don't want the vinyl, don't buy it. But acting like it's a dumb move or that nobody buys records just comes off as unifnformed and a denial of the reality of the market.

Vinyl's a nice chunk of the current music market and guess what, a (very niche) group even still like cassettes.

Bringing up 8 tracks and 78's doesn't come across as clever.

Just sayin'... wink

Yeah, I "hopped on that bandwagon of being hip and cool because it's the thing to do"... in 1976!! lol

Vinyl sales do not need to "exceed" streaming, they merely need to be a significant percentage of sales revenue, and they are.

Why does this threaten you? If you prefer the quality and lack of control that comes with streaming, nobody is taking that away from you or bitching about it's existence. No need for you to be upset about vinyl and pretend nobody wants it just because you don't.

I'm actually considering buying vinyls not for listening but for decoration, because some of my favorite album covers look mighty good in that format. But I was wondering, if you order LP's on Amazon (new ones, not second hand), do they reach in perfect quality, are they protected enough, or do the corners sometimes get smashed before delivery? I used to buy many comics trade paperbacks on Amazon and they didn't always reach in pristine state sad
